Biketoberfest 2021
As a central Florida based commercial photographer, who spends a bit of time in Tampa and Atlanta, I get to shoot a lot of assignments. But every once in a while I like to venture out and spend a day shooting whatever pleases me. I tend to be someone who likes to plan things and much of my job as a photographer and director involves email, planning, meetings, and editing. So these shoot days are a good chance for me to let loose. Sometimes I use the time trying new photo techniques. Other times I’m just working out my creative muscles, shaking off the rust that can accumulate after too many hours in the office in front of a computer.
In October I ventured out to my old college stomping grounds of Daytona with the intention of shooting the beach culture through portraits, candid shots, and whatever struck my fancy. Daytona’s a fascinating place where several subcultures collide. I brought 2 lenses and an on camera flash. With no plans I let my intuition guide me. Upon driving into town I discovered it was Biketoberfest. Change of plans! I spent the better part of the day photographing the comings and goings of the bikers and spectators. It was fun and I felt refreshed on the drive home.
